Microphone

Hallo there,

I was waiting for starting this page. Great !!! Thank you !

I play cajon not so long ago, but when I played live with the band nobody can hear it. :) Especially when the drummer is nervous or in bad mood :D (Just joking ;) ) I started surching last week in the internet and I found this one: AKG C419.

http://www.arte-flamenco.org/shop/shop/pi.php/AKG-Miniature-microphone1.html

Is it good for cajons? Can you suggest me something other, more suitable for the purpose?

Thanks for the good site!

Re: Microphone

Hey there! Try a Shure Beta 91. I have used it for many years and it sounds punchy and well balanced. Alhough it is genraly a kick mic, it works great with a cajon. Place it on a piece of foam or a small towel inside.

All the best.

Paul. :)

Re: Microphone

Hi, was just looking for advice on miking up. I have tried placing the mic like in a kick drum but find it really booming. Do you put a mic at the front as well?

Awesome playing by the way.

Re: Microphone

IT IS A NICE SITE, ABOUT THE MICROPHONE , I PERSONALLY USE A SURE BETA 57 ON A TOP FOR A KRYSPY SNARE SOUND AND ALSO I BUILD ONE MY SELF SIMILAR AS A YAMAHA SUB KICK, BUT MINE IS BETTER, (OF COURSE) THAT INVENTION GIVE MORE BODY TO THE BASS SOUND ON MY CAJON. MY CAJON IS A CUSTOMIZED CONGA CAJON, WHAT I MADE IT MY SELF WHIT RARE CUSTOM WOODS AND A FEW COATS OF LAKER PAINT. IT COME OUT NICE AND THE SOUND AMAZING.

Hey Paul!

Could you take a photo of the mic, placed inside the cajon? Your way to place it

sounds very good, and I definitely want to try it.

By the way: I really like your page! Found it today, looking for some cajon lessons.

I really like your cajon, it looks great ;).

Best regards,

Kai

Edit:

What I saw a few seconds ago: I think it would be useful to edit the

forum a little bit, so there could be more postings shown at one side!

It would also be a little easier to read if postings were shown completely.

Just some impressions of me :).

Hello. I use a microphone at the front and back. Play around with distances but a foot away from the instrument works well with me.

Hi, I just put a mic at the front and back with mic stands. Play around with distances if you like but a foot or so away works very well for flamenco accompany.

Re: Microphone

Yeah, I placed a bassdrum-mic (Audix) 12 cm from the soundhole away. Sounds great, together with bass-gutiar and piano :).
